Near the center of Anne Arundel County, Maryland is the unincorporated semi-rural community of Davidsonville. Once home to native Algonquians, colonialists were awarded land grants in the area as early as 1664. Davidsonville was a thriving crossroads community in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The first free school in the county, the Anne Arundel Free School, was build here (circa 1724-46) and remains today as an historic site open to visitors. The 1760s Roedown plantation is today a family horse-boarding farm while the historic 1790 Middle Plantation house also still stands today. In fact, the Davidson Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Only a 20 to 30 minute commute away due to the close proximity of Routes 424 and 214, however, are the cities of Annapolis and Baltimore plus rail service to Washington, D. C. This makes Davidsonville convenient to employment in those cities as well as at the NSA, Andrews AFB and Fort Meade. It is an excellent location for those who telecommute to work. Residents of Davidsonville love that it has little commercial development or high-density housing. Although there are subdivisions, the lots are from one to three acres in size. Natural gas lines or public water does generally not serve the community, so homeowners employ septic tanks and wells.

People who live in Davidsonville do so because they want to be away from the malls and the fast food places. Locals here enjoy dining at the Kilarney House restaurant, which often offers Irish musical shows and events. They also enjoy the restaurant at the Renditions Golf Club, which is open to the public. This 18-hole course has a Golf Shop, Banquet Room, Players Grill and hosts many weddings and receptions. The NEW ARCC’s Petting Zoo hosts tours by appointment plus pumpkin tours in the fall. Homestead Gardens is the local award winning enclosed garden center well known throughout the state. Play baseball, visit the playgrounds, picnic, fish or hike at Davidsonville Park or Riva Park.
